Central Valley Land & Soil Research App

PYTHON GEOSPATIAL PIPELINE

An interactive research web app analyzing 2.5 million land parcels and their correlating soil quality across California's Central Valley. Engineered a pipeline using Anaconda and Tippecanoe to convert a 2.7 GB raw dataset into lightweight Vector Tiles, with a 560,000-row sidecar index for APN lookups.

SPORT

Collegiate Boxing

I started by sneaking out to Muay Thai classes with my sister back in Vietnam. Now I compete while representing the USC boxing team USIBA and NCBA regional and national competitions!.

I love this sport and the people I get to hit (and get hit by) every day.

Training blends roadwork, bag work, and live sparring blocks. Fight week is mostly weight management and sharpening combinations you have already drilled hundreds of times. The team room is loud and chaotic in the best way—everyone is chasing the same thing with different styles.

OUTDOORS

Climbing

This started as just me and my friends messing around sophomore year. Over three years, we fought to turn it into a real, school-recognized sport, which involved a lot of "protesting" and sending annoying emails to the athletic department until they listened. As part of the climbing committee, I helped manage the program and co-planned our two-week expedition to the Buttermilks in Bishop. Seeing it go from a small hobby to a full school program was huge.

I'm so glad we didn't stop sending those emails. Two weeks in Bishop was the perfect way to finish senior year.

We built a real pipeline from gym sessions to outdoor trips: setting weekly bouldering problems, budgeting for crash pads, and negotiating van rentals with faculty sponsors. Bishop meant early mornings on highball slabs and late nights debriefing sequences around a camp stove.

LEADERSHIP

International Student Coalition

I founded the International Student Coalition after realizing our campus lacked the infrastructure to support boarding students during school breaks. I moved beyond just 'organizing meetings' to building a functional buddy system that matched incoming students with mentors and local host families. By managing the intake data and coordinating directly with the admissions team. We grew the original community of 30 members in our first semester, creating a self-sustaining space that didn't exist before.

It has now grown into one of the largest communities on campus!

Behind the scenes we ran intake spreadsheets for host capacity, tracked visa-sensitive travel windows, and ran bilingual onboarding sessions for families who had never visited campus. Partnering with admissions meant aligning our timelines with enrollment waves so no student landed without a contact.

COMMUNITY

Dorm Prefect

I took this job because my own prefects were so important to me when I was younger. I'm not the best at being a "tough" enforcer because I hate being mean, but I think I gave back in a different way. I spent so many late nights just talking and getting to know every single resident on a personal level. I was really sad to graduate and leave them, but I'm definitely going back to visit soon.

These guys really made Atwood feel like home.

Head of Residential Activities Committee

I started as a volunteer and ended up co-leading the committee senior year. We were essentially the student council's "Head of Fun," which meant running the Pirate Cup Olympics and managing the logistics for every weekend. I used Google Sheets to coordinate with faculty drivers so students could actually get off campus to places like the Monterey Aquarium or the Asian markets. We also partnered with other clubs to make sure cultural holidays weren't ignored.

A lot of spreadsheets and phone calls, but seeing everyone actually out of their rooms made it worth it.
